BODYPAINT!!! “Exhale” Runway Show

“Sure!  Why the heck not do a runway show topless? …sounds audaciously fun,” I thought to myself as I responded to a casting call for a bodypaint show at Tru Nightclub in Indianapolis!  I’d seen lots of models in bodypaint but never actually experienced modeling bodypaint myself.  Life is too short and I figured it’d be an adventure I could someday tell my grandkids about haha.  Not really.  …but an adventure nonetheless.

As I stood awaiting my queue, I looked down at myself one more time:  Yep…still pretty much naked.  Ok ok to clarify (uh hem, Mom) …I wasn’t really naked…I had on pasties and of course I was wearing a skirt.  Feel better now?

ANYWAY!  I stood at the top of the stairs with my back to the audience below in my logoed Signature Shoes silk robe; lights flashing everywhere, music pumping, the smell of the fog machine in the air… the model before me passed me at the top of the stairs.  Here goes nothing.  I took a deep breath in …exhale and …disrobe.  The song “Sexy Bitch” began to play.  As I descended the stairs in the fabulous purple six inch heeled thigh-high boots I was wearing, my adrenaline was rushing!  I stepped up onto the platform as the spot light followed my lead.  I completely forgot I wasn’t wearing some type of fabric on my upper body!  I looked out into the audience and could see my boyfriend standing in the back of the room smiling from ear to ear.  Time stood still for a moment as the noisy cheers from the crowd seemed to fade away.

Almost as quickly as time seemed to slow down, it thrust me back into real life and out of know where I was back at the top of the stairs.  Suddenly I could hear people screaming and gesturing for me to go get my picture taken with some of the audience members in the VIP section at the top of the stairs.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES:

Body Paint artist Joy Carter of Underground Studio was such a privilege to work for.  She is very pleasant and respectful.  I felt at ease while she painted me.

Getting Body-painted by Artist, Joy Carter

As I stood next to the space heater … (if you were there you may remember it was freezing! Brittany Stewart did my hair in the bathroom and I sat underneath the hand dryer to stay warm! Haha) … stylist Zoe Renee walked in and immediately got to work coordinating jewelry…shoes and such for the models’ different looks.  Joy was so impressed by her work. If you’re not familiar with how Zoe works…let me give you an idea:

Zoe – “Hey lets glue this necklace onto you so that it hangs down your backside and in a way so that it looks like part of your ‘outfit’ in the front.

Me – Ummmm….ok! :D

I was surprised it stayed put! Then we had to glue rhinestones in the front to cover up the straps of the necklace.  We were short two stones.  To remedy the situation, next thing I know, Zoe calmly says “come hear” to one of the other models …quickly pulls off two rhinestones that she had earlier glued to the model’s ears…and stuck them in the missing places.  Loved it!   I think the necklace idea turned out great and was a big hit!

I felt like some kind of Greek goddess warrior princess from a movie or some video game.  Glad I did it!
