Just Ask!

Growing up people would often tell me I should be a model.  I think deep down I wanted to be but for some reason I had assumed that to be a model you had to be “discovered”.  Since I hadn’t been “discovered” yet…I thought maybe it just wasn’t meant to be and left it at that…until one day it hit me.

I’m not going to be young forever.  One day (if I live long enough) I’m going to be an old lady looking back on my life.  What do I really want my life to be?  I’m young and it’s all ahead of me…I can make it whatever I want.   So damn it…I was going to give modeling a whirl (and shortly after, TV hosting).

I had no idea where to start or even how to go about getting started.   So I asked.  That was the first step.  If you really want something…don’t be afraid to ask!  Ask not only for things you need or want, sometimes it may come down to simply asking how to go about getting it.  I want this, how do I get there.

I was out the other night at Indy Sports Grille (a place I’ve recently been frequenting).  I wasn’t really hungry so I’d asked for a small plate of vegetables with ranch to snack on.  Yes it’s true…models like to nibble and eat like birds!  My friends gave me a hard time because I was being high maintenance since what I ordered wasn’t on the menu.  Hey it sounded good and I knew they had veggies in the kitchen so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask!  Moments later I was presented with a HUGE plate of steaming vegetables!  They went above and beyond what I’d asked for!   Totally over-the-top…I was amused!

Moral of the story:  It never hurts to ask.  You may be surprised and even get MORE than you asked for!

Pillow Talk Lingerie, BURLESQUE …and Wardrobe Malfunctions!

First of all…Happy Valentine’s Day!   Or, as it’s called in Peru where my cousin currently resides …Happy Dia de Amistad (Day of Friendship)! Either way, I hope you are spending this day with the people you love and care about.

Tonight I will be attending the burlesque show with Pur | The Company for their special Valentine’s Day performance at Room 929 in Broad Ripple.  Ladies, this is a really fun group and I would recommend taking classes!  Jenee is an excellent dancer and instructor.  All are welcome to join!  Sign up with a friend…it’s great exercise and makes for some great girly bonding time.  Plus you can learn some sexy new moves for…well…you know…

Last month I had the pleasure of performing with these wonderful ladies.  The two numbers I performed in were Tough Lover and Heaven/Touche Pas.   For Tough Lover we were to wear pink and black and for the second number we could wear whatever we wanted.  I went shopping at Pillow Talk and found two really cute pieces I thought would be perfect!  I got a pink little number to wear that included a pink bra accented with tiny black bows which helped tie in the black skirt I’d be wearing with it.  Combined with fishnets and knee-high black boots – perfect for Tough Lover!  The second outfit I got was a black bra with lace at the top which fit perfectly and polka-dot undies I thought would add a fun/cutesy touch!  Rachel was awesome in helping me find what I was looking for!

I was on the dance team in high school and I really miss it, so I was happy when I found Pur | The Company!  I love performing and it felt good to be dancing again!  We had a “wardrobe change” during the performance of Heaven/Touche pas.  This number started out with us all in “little girl” dresses …then at the change of the song we all turned to face the large mirror backstage and took off the dresses to reveal our “grown up” lingerie! HA!  Except a couple of seconds after I’d taken off my dress …I noticed in the mirror that my polka-dot undies had slipped down past my bum!  So everyone got a little glimpse! Lol ….good thing I had on dance tights! How embarrassing!

After the show my friends and I went to another bar in Broad Ripple for karaoke.  I kept on my corset/tutu outfit …a piece I wore for the Burlesque fashion show.  It wasn’t until the end of the night when I was in the restroom with my friend Bethany that she pointed out, “hey…is your corset on upside down?”  We had had a couple of drinks so it took us a while as we were looking in the mirror to figure out that… yep…it sure was!  And it had been like that the whole time!  I guess those girls in the audience weren’t giving me dirty looks after all… but perhaps looks of confusion!  haha

Here is the video clip of the two numbers I was in.  Enjoy!

New Adventures: Leather & Laces Super Bowl Party!

Fan Photo at Leather & Laces 2012!

I’m standing inside a vacant Mo’s Restaurant in downtown Indy as I write this blog.  (They’re closed today and we’re picking up some shots for their Nightlights segment…which should be releasing soon.)  The last time I was downtown was the day of Super Bowl XLVI.  As I stand here sipping on my Sorgrhum Rum and Coke, I look around through their giant picture windows at the seemingly empty streets.  It’s hard to believe the Super Bowl came and went.  I remember reading and hearing about the city’s uncertainties in the months leading up to the big event.  Could we pull it off?  It was going to be a great opportunity for us and like many others I began thinking of how I could hone in on my resources to hopefully propel myself and my career to the next level.  To me it didn’t seem the Super Bowl was ever going to get here but then in the snap of a finger it was gone just like that!

As I reflect back on the events of last week, I remember hearing nothing but good things about Indianapolis as a host city for the Super Bowl.  We pulled it off with Hoosier hospitality and I think we threw one heck of a party!  As you may already know from reading my previous post, I had the opportunity to attend one of the Super Bowl’s sexiest parties…and not only that but I was asked to be the on-camera talent for the Leather & Laces video!  This meant red carpet celebrity interviews and then later I got to go into the party and hang out in the celebrity VIP area!  It was like a whole other world and definitely a step up in my career!  After getting over the nerves of my first celebrity interviews, I feel I’m ready to conquer the next level!  Here’s to new adventures!

Watch the 9th annual Leather & Laces Super Bowl party featuring Jenny McCarthy, Carmen Electra, JWOWW and The Girls Next Door: Holly, Bridget & Kendra!

Red Carpet Celebrity Interviews

Today marks the four-year anniversary of when the first episode of Nightlights (the show I host) went to broadcast back up in Michiana on a local TV station.   This past weekend during Super Bowl at the 9th annual Leather & Laces party was a major step in my career.  I felt so honored to be asked to do red carpet celebrity interviews and be the on-camera host for the party’s video!  As I was rubbing shoulders with the stars I took a step back to take it all in…because I had never really imagined I’d ever be here in this position.  I think I’ve come a long way from “that shy girl from nowhere land” (more specifically, Elkhart IN…it’s close to South Bend haha)

Leather & Laces was my first experience interviewing celebrities and I have to admit, I was a little nervous!  Hosting on-camera when it’s a new experience always makes me nervous…I think because I’m not sure what to expect.  But, I always seem to get through it and get into my grove after the first couple moments.

As I was standing on the red carpet waiting for the celebrities to arrive, I kept reminding myself that they are just people too but that they happen to be in the public eye.  But then Jenny McCarthy rounded the corner…

*One thing I learned about the red carpet is that you can judge how famous a person is by the amount of time they take pictures and by the amount of yelling from the photographers!

I was one of the first in the line up to do interviews…right before Access Hollywood.  Great! (that was a sarcastic great lol)

So Jenny McCarthy rounded the corner, took her pictures and then made her way over to me and another girl who was hosting for another video.   The first thing out of McCarthy’s mouth was, ‘What up bitches!” haha (By the way…McCarthy is even more gorgeous in real life than what I’ve seen in photos…her blue eyes are striking!  I was like…”are you kidding me!?” lol)

Jenny McCarthy was probably my favorite interview that night.  I felt I connected with her most and wish I could hang out with her!  She seemed pretty cool.  She said I look like we could be related and called me sista at the end of the interview.  :)

Carmen Electra was next.  She is such a darling.  I just couldn’t get over how amazingly beautiful these women are!

Jenni Farley (JWoww from Jersey Shore) was next and then Saturday night was Holly, Bridget and Kendra from The Girls Next Door.

It’s just so weird to me still to have been standing there talking with them in person.  I’ve watched both those shows and never would have thought I’d ever meet them …let alone interview them on the red carpet!  It’s like someone peeled them off of the magical barrier that is the TV screen and set them right down in front of me.

During the party I got to do some more interviews and hang out up in the celebrity VIP area while we got some footage for the video.  At some point my camera guy told me Phillip Seymour Hoffman was behind me and that I should go talk to him.  I didn’t see Hoffman…but rather this guy who looked similar.  I know sometimes celebrities don’t always look the same in real life…plus it was kind of dark…so I just went with it.  It wasn’t until about halfway through the interview that my camera guy pulled me aside and exclaimed, “That’s the bacon joke guy!” … You mean Jim Gaffigan!!!?  I love that comedian!  I started freaking out! Lol …That bacon joke is one of my favorites and I couldn’t believe I’d been talking with the comedian of that joke and didn’t even realize it until halfway through! Lol So random!

I also interviewed Pat Mcafee of the Indianapolis Colts.  He was such a character!  Plus I guess he’s friends with Kendra (Girls Next Door) and her husband Hank Baskett.

Leather & Laces was such an awesome experience!  Look for the video coming out soon on Nightlights!  You can follow the show on Facebook, Twitter and/or sign up for our newsletter on the website.  Also, I will be releasing my celebrity interviews on my Facebook and Twitter!
