I was out on a shoot for Nightlights TV at RAM Restaurant and Brewery downtown.  We were shooting a segment with Andrew, the brew master, and talking about the different beers they offer.  Staring up at me with a “come hither” look, was their Big Horn beer sampler containing six beer samples…plus five more extra samples of beer, for a total of 33 ounces of beer.

It suddenly occurred to me that I should down all the beer samples as if they were shots (they WERE in shot glasses after all)!  You only live once and hey…as an entertainment host… well…I mean…it IS my job to drink on the job!

The beer samples started from light to dark …and were all different flavors.  Plus beer is carbonated.  About three shots in I was like, “uh oh…what have I gotten myself into”.  Halfway through I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it…but I couldn’t let my audience down!  Luckily I had Andrew and others cheering me on.

I don’t like dark beer…so by the last couple shots, I was ready to lose it!  The combination of all the different flavors at such a rapid pace was not something my stomach was prepared to deal with …and the carbonation was making it difficult to keep down!  Needless to say what happened after I finished the last shot! I would not advise trying this…but if you want to attempt it…at least read the following article:

How to Chug Beer

I was downtown today doing some transitions for the Indy Visitor’s Channel.  If you haven’t been recently, there are Super Bowl graphics almost everywhere you look!  Yep…no denying it…the Super Bowl is coming to Indianapolis ready or not!  Check out the JW Marriott…there’s a big picture of the Super Bowl trophy plastered all over the front of the hotel!  And they are putting up a HUGE (what looked like a “XLVI” sculpture) in Monument Circle.  Can’t wait!  It’s going to be so exciting and a great opportunity for our city!

I recently signed on as the host of the Indy Visitor’s Channel.   It’s the channel in your hotel that plays on a loop showing you what to do and where to go in the city.  I’m hoping some “big wigs” will see it and whisk me away to some super awesome job in L.A. lol …I’m tired of this cold weather!  Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

Also, I’ll be hosting a LIVE webcast for Nightlights TV.  So, if you can’t make it to all the Super Bowl festivities…you can tune in to Nightlights LIVE and still be part of the action!  No set agenda yet…so if you have any suggestions or places you’d like to see me please let me know!  (You can live chat with me while we’re streaming live too!) We’ll at least be roaming the streets!  It’s going to be crazy!  (And hopefully not too cold!)

“You know you’re hungry. I know you’re sittin’ in your hotel room. We both know you want pizza…” haha GOLD!

Coal Pizza utilizes centuries old techniques, the world’s finest San Marzano tomatoes, house made mozzarella, artisan dough and the freshest toppings!  But wait until I tell you about the toppings…

When I first walked in I noticed some kind of pizza I’d never seen before.  I asked one of the owners, Charles, about it.  His response was, “Oh, that’s our Proscuitto pizza”.  I was like, “That’s pizza? Well what’s that green stuff on it?”

“Melon.”

“What. …I must try this!”

Like my friend Bethany says, I’ll try anything once, twice if I like it.  And…surprisingly…it was the best pizza I ever had!  I’m actually not even sure if it’s comparable to pizza.  It was perfect in every way. …It’s like… the heavens opened and I realized that every pizza before this didn’t live up to my expectations. But this, this is THE ONE and I’m going to marry it!

Coal Pizza bakes their pizzas in a custom coal-burning oven imported from Italy at a blistering 900 degrees!  Ding! Done in 90 seconds!  I think it’s ridiculous that this is the best pizza in town and you don’t even have to wait as long as you normally would for “regular” pizza.  The result of this technique is that the dough comes out very thin, yet simultaneously soft and crisp.  So delicious!

Here’s a list of three of their unique, gourmet pizza I challenge you to try!

1. Proscuitto (arugula salad, melon, fig balsamic) …$16
2. Duck Confit (caramelized onion, goat cheese, fig) …$16
3. Smoked Salmon (red onion, dill, Tennessee caviar) …$18

(They also have traditional toppings if you’re not that adventurous…)

Let me know when you’ve tried all three and which your favorite is.  I’ve only tried the Proscuitto but I’ll definitely be back for more!

I’ve been blonde pretty much my whole life…so it was a big step for me when I decided I wanted to change my hair color.  I had two reasons for this: One, I was getting kind of bored and it was the turn of a new year…so why not!  And two, I’ve been applying to agencies and hearing a lot of ….”we already have too many with your look”.  I guess there are a lot of girls with blonde hair… so what’s a girl wanting to freaking get signed with an agency already! …going to do? Oh the frustration!

I’m a blonde at heart!  (Blondes have more fun…sorry…but it’s true. teehee)  I couldn’t completely go against and abandon the sacredness of the blonde sisterhood…so I decided to go …

STRAWBERRY BLONDE!

(Plus I thought it’d go well with my blue eyes … I like the look reds and blues together.)

I love the turn of a new year.  You get to look back at all the fun times and great moments from the past year and at the same time look forward to a brand new start and new possibilities.

I had a great 2011 and I have a feeling it’ll be an even better 2012!  Thank you to everyone who’s supported my endeavors this past year and to my fans and subscribers who’ve been following along for the ride!  I think there are some very exciting things just around the corner!

Here is my top 11 favorite moments of 2011 from beginning to end:

1. I walked in a body paint runway show for the first time and it was quite the adrenaline rush!
2. I made the cover of Fashion Wrap Up in their issue featuring Pillow Talk Lingerie.
3. Nikki Blaine signed on as one of my clothing sponsors.
4. I made it into Maxim’s Hometown Hotties contest (thanks again everyone who voted)
5. I had my first autograph signing session at the Horror Hound Convention.
6. Corey Feldman and the guys from Boondock Saints rode around in the Nightlights limo sponsored by A Class Act Limo Service …and my good friend Erica Stikeleather came along too!
7. The music video I was in where I played the part of the temptress for Reaul’s hit single “My Casino Heart” was released.
8. I had the opportunity to participate as a Girl of Golf for Playboy Golf …fun times!
9. I took the plunge and quit my “real job” to purse the TV Host, modeling and acting thing full-time.
10. I landed a gig as host of the Indy Visitor’s Channel (I’m in your hotel room!)
11. Nightlights teamed up with ChaCha and had a great time at their party ringing in the New Year!

So what’s in store for 2012?  Anything is possible!  I’d like to see Nightlights get BACK ON the television …which is very, very possible.  Without going into too much boring detail, it’s a very long process but I think it’ll happen soon.  If not, I’m moving to L.A. to join Erica next year and that’s that.  Hey I’m not getting any younger here!

I’m definitely making it a goal to get signed with a reputable agency this year and do more work in print, runway and commercial.  Working as independent talent has been great…but it’s time to start making the big bucks at the top! Haha. I’d like to be traveling and it’d be really cool to land some published work in a major magazine.  I’d also like to do more with acting.  Maybe my own line of ______?  We will see …a lot can happen in a year!

One of the worst things in life is having your car break down.  Ok, maybe I’m being over-dramatic …but you know what I mean.  You get that churning feeling of uncertainty, helplessness and frustration, plus the unforeseen and sometimes burdensome expense of having to call the tow truck to take it somewhere to get it fixed.

As you may know from my last post, I quit my nine to five.  No not Nightlights…my day job as a video production assistant.  And I must say, the first week of my new glamorous life as a full-time TV host, model, actress …was not getting off to a good start!  Let me begin…

(please note: I’m not trying to speak badly of anyone…it’s my own fault for booking these next two events back to back haha)

So I had a fashion show I booked that was scheduled to begin at midnight on Saturday.  Of course these things never start exactly on time (this is normal and I expected it).  I got home late that night around 2:00 a.m. …and had to be in Chicago to work a tradeshow by 8:30 a.m.  It takes about three hours to drive there plus I still needed time to get ready …luckily my awesome boyfriend was willing to drive me so I could sleep in the car. 

So I get all comfy and cozy in the back seat as we begin our (what I now consider to be an epic journey) …and then it happened.

We’re on the highway.  It’s about 3:00 a.m.  Just as I was on the verge of catching some much needed z’s, I feel the car begin to make a sudden jolting motion as it slowed to a complete…and utterly dead stop.  My heart sank.  Silence.     

The gas gauge in my car is broke so we thought maybe we ran out of gas.  We turned on the hazards, grabbed the gas can and started walking to the nearest gas station.  Which, as it turned out, happened to be the “always a mile away” gas station.  We swear it only looked like it was a mile away…we had just passed that exit!  Well…we ended up walking in the dark and in the cold alongside the highway for about an hour until a cop picked us up, took us the rest of the way to the station, back to our car and waited until we were back up and moving.  What’s dumb is, we were gone so long, that [interject dramatic sound: dum dum dummm] the hazard lights ran down the car battery!  He gave us a jump.  Nice guy.

But this is just the beginning…

So I get all cozy in the back seat again, happy and relieved that we are still able to make it to Chicago on time.  Just as I was about to doze off…it happened again!  By this time, I’m seriously concerned.  I heard my boyfriend pop the hood and get out of the car.  Next I hear a car pull up, then voices.  It starts getting cold.  The car starts back up.  I hear a, “thanks, man” right before my boyfriend hops back into the car and quickly takes off.  “We’re going to have to go back home and get the other car,” he tells me.   We were about 15 miles out. 

It wasn’t too long we’d been driving on our way back…when the car dies on us again!  Same thing:  Pop open the hood and wait for someone to notice my boyfriend shining a light on the jumper cables as a signal for help.  After twenty minutes of huge semi-trucks whipping past in 40 degree weather, a lady stopped.  She happened to live down the road from us, on her way home from work and promised to follow us the rest of the way.  We ended up having to get jumped two more times on the way back home.  Each time I remember waking up, it got really cold, then we’d be back up and running, the car would get warm again then I’d fall back asleep. 

We finally made it home around 5:00 a.m., switched the luggage from one car to the other, and started back up towards Chicago again in the “good” car.  About 50 miles in, the check engine light came on.  By this time we’re a little more strapped for time.  My boyfriend pulls over to a gas station to add more coolant and oil.  Trouble was… the oil cap wouldn’t budge.  He tried for about 20 minutes to no avail so then tried pouring the oil through the dip stick hole but instead of going in, the crazy wind caused the oil to spray all over the place!  (I’m sleeping through all of this of course). Haha…poor guy!

Finally, we made it to that McDonalds on the toll road right before the Chicago Skybridge…with about 15 minutes to spare!  Just enough time to freshen up, change clothes and cram down some breakfast. I was probably a site to see; sitting at the table frantically eating my greasy breakfast sandwich and applying my makeup that was spread out all over the place! Haha! I made it to my next gig right on the dot! Frazzled haired, dark under eye circles, wind burned skin and all!  I looked rough…kind of like I’d walked an hour in the cold wind on the highway and then half slept in the back of a car the rest of what was left of the night! lol But at least I made it!

On the way to my last day of working the tradeshow (of course) …you guessed it… the car broke down!  Right on Lakeshore Drive!  We waited over an hour and a half for the tow truck to show up!  Ridiculous! After we got off the highway, I finally was able to hail a taxi to make it two hours late to the tradeshow.  Needless to say, the “good” car we drove to Chicago was completely junked.  Another long story short, we rented a car to make it back home (which in hind sight is what we should have done in the first place!)  So, after both our cars fizzling out at the same time … we needed to figure out transportation to be able to drive BACK to Chicago to return the rental and expedite this car.   

A few days prior to this Chicago trip, we discovered this really amazing car service called My Car Doc.  They will come to YOU to fix your car!  It’s like having your own personal mechanic! YAY!  I can’t tell you, ladies especially, how many times I’ve broke down on the side of the road by myself… almost in tears feeling completely helpless and hating the thought of having to spend money on getting my car towed.  But now I know about My Car Doc!  All I have to do is call them if I’m having an emergency and they will come to my rescue! They’ll fix my car and get me back on my way!   They also perform regularly scheduled maintenance on your vehicle at your home or work…so it’s really convenient, especially for us busy types!

So driving on our way back from Chicago, we call up John, the owner of My Car Doc.  We tell him our situation and he agrees to work on our car so that when we arrive home, the car will be fixed and we can drive it back to Chicago to finish up this rigmarole of a situation we’ve been in for the past three days!  It was great!  Saved us a bunch of time, stress, energy and it was so nice to have that sigh of relief and peace of mind knowing we had a working vehicle to come home to!

… so you’ve caught a peek into my current reality! Lol. My life isn’t always as glamorous as people might think! But it’s ok because someday I’ll be hosting a party up in my L.A. penthouse, toasting to some grand occasion…recalling this story and laughing over a glass of champagne!

My life isn’t always as glamorous as people might think!

Well…I’m happy to say … a year and a half later, I took a deep breath and said ‘goodbye’ to my nine to five!  I’m spreading my wings onto new horizons!  Leaving behind the comfort of a steady income is a scary step for anyone to take, but I’m confident it was the right decision and I’m excited about what is to come! With all my time and energies focused on hosting Nightlights and other projects, modeling and acting…who knows where the wind will take me next! (hopefully soon LA …or maybe NYC, although I’m not much for cold weather!)

My life may appear glamorous…but while it’s been a lot fun, it’s also been a very difficult struggle, a lot of hard work and yes…a few emotional breakdowns that only my mom and boyfriend have witnessed.   I appreciate every one of you:  my family, friends and fans that’ve supported me along the way and sent words of encouragement.  At times, those have been what have kept my fire burning.  Not many people can say they get to do what they love for a living!

Let us not take the easy road, but that which we feel most convicted.   I for one don’t want to live a life of mediocrity for the sake of comfort and familiarity!  We have but one life to live! Keep pressing on towards your goals; adjustments can be made along the way.  Sometimes we need to take that step of faith; and for me, if it wasn’t now…then I felt it never would be.   So get ready for a whole new chapter in Adventures with Beers!  …and in the words of Budweiser… “here we go”… lol  (sorry, I just had to throw that in there!)

If anyone is familiar with the fashion and entertainment biz, you know rejection is inevitable.  But you just have to stay focused, don’t take it personally, get back up, brush yourself off and keep at it!   I can’t tell you how many times in the past three plus years I’ve been rejected in my career.   I’ve tried out twice for America’s Next Top Model…didn’t make it.  (Lots of people keep telling me I should try out…been there done that! haha).   That’s just one example.

Anyway…

So I literally fell off a horse last month! Lol  That blog post is for another day though, sorry!  It’s coming soon, so make sure you’re subscribed to my blog!

While I’ve been rejected maybe more than anyone would like to be rejected …every once in a while, those little steps lead towards something pretty cool and worthwhile!  Sometimes I feel like I’m not going anywhere in my career, but when I look back to where I was when I started to where I am today, I know I’m on the right path and hopefully I keep reaching new heights!

When I first began modeling back in 2008, my first runway show was during Midwest Fashion Week at the Jazz Kitchen in Indy.  I took notice of a local designer’s clothing line.  I really hoped I would be able to model for that designer.  One of my friends ended up getting to model some of that particular designer’s clothes and I didn’t!  I didn’t get picked!  I have to admit, I was kind of jealous and thought maybe I just wasn’t good enough.

Fast forward about three years and now I work on a regular basis with this designer, wearing her clothes on the show I host, Nightlights. When I first met with my now clothing sponsor, Nikki Blaine of Nikki Blaine Couture, I didn’t think she would want to sponsor my wardrobe for the show.  To my surprise… she seemed on board the moment we sat down.  I don’t even think she thought twice about it and was thrilled to provide me with clothing!  She has been nothing but fabulous to work with!  So moral of the story… it doesn’t hurt to ask!  Sometimes things aren’t as impossible as they seem!

I used to think a career in modeling was unobtainable…and I certainly never thought I’d be doing Nightlights.  But then one day I think it just hit me.  I don’t want to be at the end of my life wondering what I could’ve been…could’ve done.  So I decided it would be worth at least trying.   Looking back, I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I could.  On days I’m feeling discouraged…I try to focus on that idea.  If I’ve already accomplished more than I ever thought…what more lies ahead?  Just have to keep moving forward…and getting back on the horse.

This past weekend, I experienced for the first time, a very small part of the world of Playboy.  Actually…it was last month in July when I was welcomed to the Playboy family as a Girl of Golf in Traverse City, Michigan.

The Playboy Golf Scramble happens annually and is a really fun and unique golf event!  Golfers of all abilities all over the nation compete at a local level for a chance to win a trip to the finals in Southern California…plus a VIP Player’s Pajama and Lingerie party at the Playboy Mansion!  Playboy Playmates and the Playboy Girls of Golf host each of these golf outings and the Girls of Golf also compete for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to the finals…and the party of course!

As a Girl of Golf, we were stationed in small groups at each hole and encouraged to plan an activity and/or handout for the golfers.    Each girl is hoping to earn the golfers’ votes at the awards dinner in order to win the trip to the finals… so the more fun and creative the better.  We were advised to keep it classy though haha…since we were representing the Playboy brand.  If you broke any of the rules, then you’d be disqualified!  And the rules were stricter than you might think!  Some of the things we weren’t allowed to do was leave our hole and we weren’t allowed to put things down our cleavage! WHAT! Haha…I know right!   Twister and beer pong were just some of the activities.  Then of course there were liquor sponsors and DJs at some of the holes.  My favorite handout one of the girls had, was giving the golfers “blue balls” …golf balls she dyed blue!

VIP @ Subterra

So Playboy Golf came to Indianapolis this past weekend and if you missed it…well…you missed it!  August 18^th was the kickoff to the event with the VIP Player’s Party at Subterra Lounge starting at 8:00 p.m.  Doors opened to the public at 10:00 p.m.   (My dress from Nikki Blaine Couture’s fabulous new boutique in Zionsville was a big hit!)  I had a fantastic night out mingling with some of the golfer’s and then tearing up the town with Natalie…another Girl of Golf and my “partner in crime” for the weekend.  I think I only got literally two hours of sleep until I had to be at the Southern Dunes Golf Course for the Playboy Scramble the next day!  Totally worth it!  Then there was the awards dinner and after party at Tiki Bob’s.  It was quite the weekend… I must say!
