Rumor Has It …I’m Posing for Playboy. Find Out the Secret I’ve Been Keeping!

There have been rumors going around that I’m posing for Playboy.  Sorry, not today boys!   It was fun though keeping everyone wondering while I prepared to make my big announcement!  Well, my secrets out:  I’m coming out with my very own line of vodka!  (I think that’s better than Playboy…don’t you?) ;)

Watch my “Official Announcement” and behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot I did as part of the process in creating my label:

At the very beginning of the year, I stated in another blog post that one of my goals for 2012 was to come out with a line of something.  I always thought someday I’d have my own line of beer…since my last name IS Beers after all!  But…the vodka came first…so we’re just going to go with it!

Here’s the back story of how this came to be (in case you’re curious):

Heartland Distillers is one of the sponsor’s for Nightlights TV (the show I’ve hosted for the past four years).  They supply the limo we take to our shoots with Indiana Vodka…so everyone can have a good time.  :D

… One casual day I was taking a tour of the distillery and meeting the maker of the vodka, Stuart Hobson, for the first time.   In the back of my mind I always knew I wanted my own line of alcohol (again, it just seemed appropriate).  I did NOT, however, have in mind on this particular day to pitch the idea of creating my own line of vodka, nor did I have any specific ideas simmering on the back burner.  For some reason…perhaps due to some mysterious force… it just struck me like lighting, and I think I literally had a light bulb appear above my head!  “Hey Stuart!  What do you think about this!?”  And then all this sudden energy welling up inside me proceeded to come out in the form of an idea he really liked!

I’m extremely excited to be coming out with my very own line of vodka!  I can’t wait for it to hit the markets!  I think you guys will really like it. :)  We’re still in the beginning phases.  I’ll be talking with the VP of Sales at Olinger Distributors next week about the direction the label needs to take visually and then I’ll be sending off the photos to the artist who’s going to create a pin-up style illustration of my image.

A Night of Sophisticated Bar Hopping!

Food Meets Fashion is that part of Midwest Fashion Week where a group of us venture to different restaurants and eat a bunch of fashion inspired food and sip on fashion inspired cocktails…rubbing it into the models faces who’ve been starving themselves for the finale runway show the following day. Haha…just kidding! But seriously…

This season we all packed into the Hummer Limo from A Class Act Limo Service …fully stocked with Indiana Vodka of course!  Our first stop was Fujiyama Steakhouse of Japan where the food was prepared right in front of us!  (ps…I wore chop sticks in my hair…I felt it was appropriate for “Food Meets Fashion” HA! …read about my look in my “Look of the Night” blog)

Next we went to Chef Joseph’s at the Connoisseur Room on East Ohio Street in Indy.  Chef Joseph has traveled all around the world learning the art of cuisine.  The food was impeccable and the atmosphere was equally remarkable.  I always love discovering new places!  I don’t think they’ve been open for long. Go check it out!

Libertine was the next stop for some fashion inspired cocktails.  We each ordered our own cocktail from what I thought was an interesting menu…definitely not what I usually see when I’m ordering a drink.  I talked the founder of Midwest Fashion Week, Berny Martin, into ordering Absinthe lol…he’d never had it before ;)

I’m not sure we had room but our last stop for the night was the Winner’s Circle for dessert!  Yum!  As always it was a fun night!  Can’t wait for October’s Midwest Fashion Week!  I wonder where we’ll go and what’ll be on the menu!

Midwest Fashion Week – We Closed it Down!

This past Saturday was the finale runway show for Midwest Fashion Week.  DSI (Down Syndrome Indiana) hosted the Design for Change Gala event.  Marlene Haute Couture decided to pull out of the show due to irreconcilable differences so of course I was extremely disappointed she wouldn’t be showing… on top of the fact I would no longer get to model her show stopper dress on the runway!  I contemplated not even walking this year… but you know me…I ended up modeling for Catou and Michael Alan Stein.

My mom and aunt ended up coming out to support.  I made them get up and strut their stuff down the catwalk after the show was over and people were cleaning up.  …Pretty sure we closed the place down!   Lol

You can check out the show and the designers’ collections on Nightlights TV’s website.  All the clips are up for viewing!

P.S.  …I did still get to model Marlene’s show stopper dress…just not on the runway during Midwest Fashion Week.  We did a photo shoot that morning in the garden at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  The weather was perfect!  I will be writing about it in another blog entry as soon as I get the photos.  …So make sure you’re subscribed to my blog! New Adventures: Leather & Laces Super Bowl Party!

Fan Photo at Leather & Laces 2012!

I’m standing inside a vacant Mo’s Restaurant in downtown Indy as I write this blog.  (They’re closed today and we’re picking up some shots for their Nightlights segment…which should be releasing soon.)  The last time I was downtown was the day of Super Bowl XLVI.  As I stand here sipping on my Sorgrhum Rum and Coke, I look around through their giant picture windows at the seemingly empty streets.  It’s hard to believe the Super Bowl came and went.  I remember reading and hearing about the city’s uncertainties in the months leading up to the big event.  Could we pull it off?  It was going to be a great opportunity for us and like many others I began thinking of how I could hone in on my resources to hopefully propel myself and my career to the next level.  To me it didn’t seem the Super Bowl was ever going to get here but then in the snap of a finger it was gone just like that!

As I reflect back on the events of last week, I remember hearing nothing but good things about Indianapolis as a host city for the Super Bowl.  We pulled it off with Hoosier hospitality and I think we threw one heck of a party!  As you may already know from reading my previous post, I had the opportunity to attend one of the Super Bowl’s sexiest parties…and not only that but I was asked to be the on-camera talent for the Leather & Laces video!  This meant red carpet celebrity interviews and then later I got to go into the party and hang out in the celebrity VIP area!  It was like a whole other world and definitely a step up in my career!  After getting over the nerves of my first celebrity interviews, I feel I’m ready to conquer the next level!  Here’s to new adventures!

My Hero!

One of the worst things in life is having your car break down.  Ok, maybe I’m being over-dramatic …but you know what I mean.  You get that churning feeling of uncertainty, helplessness and frustration, plus the unforeseen and sometimes burdensome expense of having to call the tow truck to take it somewhere to get it fixed.

As you may know from my last post, I quit my nine to five.  No not Nightlights…my day job as a video production assistant.  And I must say, the first week of my new glamorous life as a full-time TV host, model, actress …was not getting off to a good start!  Let me begin…

(please note: I’m not trying to speak badly of anyone…it’s my own fault for booking these next two events back to back haha)

So I had a fashion show I booked that was scheduled to begin at midnight on Saturday.  Of course these things never start exactly on time (this is normal and I expected it).  I got home late that night around 2:00 a.m. …and had to be in Chicago to work a tradeshow by 8:30 a.m.  It takes about three hours to drive there plus I still needed time to get ready …luckily my awesome boyfriend was willing to drive me so I could sleep in the car.

So I get all comfy and cozy in the back seat as we begin our (what I now consider to be an epic journey) …and then it happened.

We’re on the highway.  It’s about 3:00 a.m.  Just as I was on the verge of catching some much needed z’s, I feel the car begin to make a sudden jolting motion as it slowed to a complete…and utterly dead stop.  My heart sank.  Silence.

The gas gauge in my car is broke so we thought maybe we ran out of gas.  We turned on the hazards, grabbed the gas can and started walking to the nearest gas station.  Which, as it turned out, happened to be the “always a mile away” gas station.  We swear it only looked like it was a mile away…we had just passed that exit!  Well…we ended up walking in the dark and in the cold alongside the highway for about an hour until a cop picked us up, took us the rest of the way to the station, back to our car and waited until we were back up and moving.  What’s dumb is, we were gone so long, that [interject dramatic sound: dum dum dummm] the hazard lights ran down the car battery!  He gave us a jump.  Nice guy.

But this is just the beginning…

So I get all cozy in the back seat again, happy and relieved that we are still able to make it to Chicago on time.  Just as I was about to doze off…it happened again!  By this time, I’m seriously concerned.  I heard my boyfriend pop the hood and get out of the car.  Next I hear a car pull up, then voices.  It starts getting cold.  The car starts back up.  I hear a, “thanks, man” right before my boyfriend hops back into the car and quickly takes off.  “We’re going to have to go back home and get the other car,” he tells me.   We were about 15 miles out.

It wasn’t too long we’d been driving on our way back…when the car dies on us again!  Same thing:  Pop open the hood and wait for someone to notice my boyfriend shining a light on the jumper cables as a signal for help.  After twenty minutes of huge semi-trucks whipping past in 40 degree weather, a lady stopped.  She happened to live down the road from us, on her way home from work and promised to follow us the rest of the way.  We ended up having to get jumped two more times on the way back home.  Each time I remember waking up, it got really cold, then we’d be back up and running, the car would get warm again then I’d fall back asleep.

We finally made it home around 5:00 a.m., switched the luggage from one car to the other, and started back up towards Chicago again in the “good” car.  About 50 miles in, the check engine light came on.  By this time we’re a little more strapped for time.  My boyfriend pulls over to a gas station to add more coolant and oil.  Trouble was… the oil cap wouldn’t budge.  He tried for about 20 minutes to no avail so then tried pouring the oil through the dip stick hole but instead of going in, the crazy wind caused the oil to spray all over the place!  (I’m sleeping through all of this of course). Haha…poor guy!

Finally, we made it to that McDonalds on the toll road right before the Chicago Skybridge…with about 15 minutes to spare!  Just enough time to freshen up, change clothes and cram down some breakfast. I was probably a site to see; sitting at the table frantically eating my greasy breakfast sandwich and applying my makeup that was spread out all over the place! Haha! I made it to my next gig right on the dot! Frazzled haired, dark under eye circles, wind burned skin and all!  I looked rough…kind of like I’d walked an hour in the cold wind on the highway and then half slept in the back of a car the rest of what was left of the night! lol But at least I made it!

On the way to my last day of working the tradeshow (of course) …you guessed it… the car broke down!  Right on Lakeshore Drive!  We waited over an hour and a half for the tow truck to show up!  Ridiculous! After we got off the highway, I finally was able to hail a taxi to make it two hours late to the tradeshow.  Needless to say, the “good” car we drove to Chicago was completely junked.  Another long story short, we rented a car to make it back home (which in hind sight is what we should have done in the first place!)  So, after both our cars fizzling out at the same time … we needed to figure out transportation to be able to drive BACK to Chicago to return the rental and expedite this car.

A few days prior to this Chicago trip, we discovered this really amazing car service called My Car Doc.  They will come to YOU to fix your car!  It’s like having your own personal mechanic! YAY!  I can’t tell you, ladies especially, how many times I’ve broke down on the side of the road by myself… almost in tears feeling completely helpless and hating the thought of having to spend money on getting my car towed.  But now I know about My Car Doc!  All I have to do is call them if I’m having an emergency and they will come to my rescue! They’ll fix my car and get me back on my way!   They also perform regularly scheduled maintenance on your vehicle at your home or work…so it’s really convenient, especially for us busy types!

So driving on our way back from Chicago, we call up John, the owner of My Car Doc.  We tell him our situation and he agrees to work on our car so that when we arrive home, the car will be fixed and we can drive it back to Chicago to finish up this rigmarole of a situation we’ve been in for the past three days!  It was great!  Saved us a bunch of time, stress, energy and it was so nice to have that sigh of relief and peace of mind knowing we had a working vehicle to come home to!

Thank you My Car Doc!

… so you’ve caught a peek into my current reality! Lol. My life isn’t always as glamorous as people might think! But it’s ok because someday I’ll be hosting a party up in my L.A. penthouse, toasting to some grand occasion…recalling this story and laughing over a glass of champagne!

Chase your dreams!

Cheers,

Amy

My life isn’t always as glamorous as people might think!

I Quit! (A New Chapter in “Adventures with Beers”…)

After graduating college a little over a year and a half ago, I received a job as a production assistant at a video production company in Indianapolis…which ultimately led Nightlights to a bigger market and me to continue pursuing modeling and acting where more of those jobs are available (I’m from Elkhart…remember…it was #1 for unemployment for a while there.  That’s also where Nightlights was born…I’m surprised the show even survived! haha).  While working behind the camera allowed me to gain a more complete understanding of my field, my ultimate goal and passion I found was in front of the camera.  I told myself I’d give it two years…

Well…I’m happy to say … a year and a half later, I took a deep breath and said ‘goodbye’ to my nine to five!  I’m spreading my wings onto new horizons!  Leaving behind the comfort of a steady income is a scary step for anyone to take, but I’m confident it was the right decision and I’m excited about what is to come! With all my time and energies focused on hosting Nightlights and other projects, modeling and acting…who knows where the wind will take me next! (hopefully soon LA …or maybe NYC, although I’m not much for cold weather!)

My life may appear glamorous…but while it’s been a lot fun, it’s also been a very difficult struggle, a lot of hard work and yes…a few emotional breakdowns that only my mom and boyfriend have witnessed.   I appreciate every one of you:  my family, friends and fans that’ve supported me along the way and sent words of encouragement.  At times, those have been what have kept my fire burning.  Not many people can say they get to do what they love for a living!

Let us not take the easy road, but that which we feel most convicted.   I for one don’t want to live a life of mediocrity for the sake of comfort and familiarity!  We have but one life to live! Keep pressing on towards your goals; adjustments can be made along the way.  Sometimes we need to take that step of faith; and for me, if it wasn’t now…then I felt it never would be.   So get ready for a whole new chapter in Adventures with Beers!  …and in the words of Budweiser… “here we go”… lol  (sorry, I just had to throw that in there!)

Fearlessly Yours,
Amy Beers

Blue Balls & Playboy Golf!

This past weekend, I experienced for the first time, a very small part of the world of Playboy.  Actually…it was last month in July when I was welcomed to the Playboy family as a Girl of Golf in Traverse City, Michigan.

The Playboy Golf Scramble happens annually and is a really fun and unique golf event!  Golfers of all abilities all over the nation compete at a local level for a chance to win a trip to the finals in Southern California…plus a VIP Player’s Pajama and Lingerie party at the Playboy Mansion!  Playboy Playmates and the Playboy Girls of Golf host each of these golf outings and the Girls of Golf also compete for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to the finals…and the party of course!

As a Girl of Golf, we were stationed in small groups at each hole and encouraged to plan an activity and/or handout for the golfers.    Each girl is hoping to earn the golfers’ votes at the awards dinner in order to win the trip to the finals… so the more fun and creative the better.  We were advised to keep it classy though haha…since we were representing the Playboy brand.  If you broke any of the rules, then you’d be disqualified!  And the rules were stricter than you might think!  Some of the things we weren’t allowed to do was leave our hole and we weren’t allowed to put things down our cleavage! WHAT! Haha…I know right!   Twister and beer pong were just some of the activities.  Then of course there were liquor sponsors and DJs at some of the holes.  My favorite handout one of the girls had, was giving the golfers “blue balls” …golf balls she dyed blue!

VIP @ Subterra

So Playboy Golf came to Indianapolis this past weekend and if you missed it…well…you missed it!  August 18th was the kickoff to the event with the VIP Player’s Party at Subterra Lounge starting at 8:00 p.m.  Doors opened to the public at 10:00 p.m.   (My dress from Nikki Blaine Couture’s fabulous new boutique in Zionsville was a big hit!)  I had a fantastic night out mingling with some of the golfer’s and then tearing up the town with Natalie…another Girl of Golf and my “partner in crime” for the weekend.  I think I only got literally two hours of sleep until I had to be at the Southern Dunes Golf Course for the Playboy Scramble the next day!  Totally worth it!  Then there was the awards dinner and after party at Tiki Bob’s.  It was quite the weekend… I must say!

(more photos from Playboy Golf on my Facebook page!)

Music Video: “My Casino Heart” …I played the Temptress ;)

I feel blessed to have had so many great experiences in life and in doing what I love!  It was truly an honor to work with such an amazing band and production team!

Thank you Réaul and director, Daniel Risk for letting me be a part of it!

Special thanks also to makeup artist, Gabrielle Thompson, for doing a fabulous job on my makeup!  You’re one of the best!  (…remember when I showed up to your salon door with rollers still in my hair! lol)

Amy

About a year ago I had the good fortune of being selected as the lead female for the music video, “My Casino Heart”, by the band Réaul.  I was so excited as it was my first music video.  Production began last summer and in Elkhart, Indiana of all places!  …The city where I was born and raised!  I got to play the part of the temptress.

I remember it was really hot that day.  I remember eating pizza.  I remember going almost 200mph in that yellow Ferrari with the top down through some back road cornfields! lol (don’t tell my dad! )  …So yeah… it was a pretty good day!

The scene at the end of the video where I pull up in the Mustang was my favorite part of the shoot.  It doesn’t look like it…but it was so intense!  I had to drive up at a decent speed, slam on the breaks, put the car in park, and swing open the passenger door for Rick, the lead singer …all in one swift, fluid movement and under a certain amount of time.  The timing had to be just right!

Me and director Daniel Risk of Risk Productions

The music video released this past weekend (May 21, 2011).  Look for it soon on the Indy Music Channel!  It’s also available as a FREE download via ITunes under their podcast channel (“Reaul tv”).  Their new album, which includes the song “My Casino Heart”, is in stores and online now!

A little about the band:
Réaul is a Pop/Rock group reminiscent of bands such as OneRepublic, Nickelback, and Anberlin all rolled into one. In the last three years the band has traveled throughout the country playing over 250 shows on a variety of different tours.  They’ve been working with producer Chip Znuff, of the band Enuff Z’nuff, and Grammy winning engineer, Jeff Luif (Janet Jackson, Twista) for the last several months.  In talking about their new album (including the song “My Casino Heart”), front man Rick Connell states, “We have spent over a year of literal blood, sweat, and tears writing and recording our new album and there is a lot of anticipation from us and our fans for the release of this album”.
Réaul has recently been endorsed as a national partner with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and is planning on taking the country by storm in a Nationwide tour of walks starting this Spring continuing into the Fall. “We have an amazing group of people that we are working with. We would definitely not be able to do this without them,” stated Connell.
The group’s passion for JDRF was first ignited when the band’s drummer (Nate Metzler) began giving drum lessons to a boy named Ian McCollum who happened to have Type 1 Diabetes. Ian’s father and mother (Mark and Cindy McCollum) who are heavily involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, wanted to help the band make an impact in this endeavor and began forming a relationship that has turned into a nationwide partnership between Réaul and JDRF. Réaul was invited to perform at the first annual “Rock it to a Cure” in 2010 held in Indianapolis, Indiana as well as play for the 2010 Indianapolis JDRF Walk. The walk is held annually in Indianapolis’ downtown Military Park with more than 5,000 people in attendance.
Needless to say, both these events were a huge success. “We have had our fair share of challenges, but somehow we always seem to pull through. We don’t have an overnight success story and nothing has just fallen into our lap. We have a great team of people, a wonderful organization to be working with, a bus, gear, a new album, and this dream that we can ‘change the world for the better’ that just won’t quit,” states the band’s drummer, Nate Metzler. “I really think this is going to be the year that we see things change on all fronts”.

Adventures with Beers: Corey Feldman and the Boondock Saints

Life is an adventure and always full of surprises!  I’m so thankful to have amazing friends (and fans) to share it with!  I write this blog to you.  To you who’ve been supportive and happy to share in my exciting career opportunities.

Thank you for your love, support and encouragement!

Ok.  So a lot of you have been asking how my past weekend was…so here it is…

AMAZING!

I should start from the beginning.

I received an email from the talent relations person at MTv Productions explaining how they came across my profile on Model Mayhem (an online community of models, photographers etc.).   They invited me to pair up with Mike Holman from Jackass at his booth during the Horror Hound Convention and sign autographs if I wanted.  At first I declined because I didn’t think a horror convention reached my fan base.  After her explaining that it was also more of a “pop culture” convention, I agreed thinking it could be a great opportunity for face time with the public to help promote Nightlights.  Once I explained to her about the show I host and that we were thinking about turning the opportunity into a LIVE webcast, she suggested that we have our own exhibit booth.  Pretty cool.  So thus began the scrambling around in last minute preparation for exhibition.  I won’t bore you with the details.

Scott and Andrea (Annie) Romer, who we met during Nightlights’ LIVE webcast of Midwest Fashion Week’s “Food Meets Fashion” the previous week, agreed to come out for the weekend and take fan photos.   Turned out to be a great hit!  I’m glad they came, they do a fantastic job!  (Check them out!  Photos from “Food Meets Fashion” and other Midwest Fashion events are up!)

On Friday, Annie, who sort of became Nightlights co-producer at the convention, was able to…last minute and on the fly…set up an evening of entertaining Sean Patrick Flattery and Norman Reedus (who were also at the convention) from the movie Boondock Saints.  You should’ve seen her.  She was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, frantically but still maintaining a level of sternness and professionalism, making calls and connections to pull this last-minute invite together.  Shout out to Annie!  I was impressed…you are amazing, I don’t know how you did it!  *Kudos

Donny , from A Class Act Limousine Service, provided the transportation to Iaria’s Italian Restaurant (serving Italian Food since 1933).  And of course, we stocked the limo with Indiana Vodka’s new infused flavors.  At dinner, I sat in-between Sean and Norman, had some great conversation and received some valuable career advice!  Then of course before we left, everyone wanted pictures.   The two did the infamous double shot pose with one of the restaurant guys!

Saturday was nuts!  Running on 4 hours of sleep in stilettos all day is not easy!  I was definitely feeling over-whelmed, over-stimulated, and way too hopped up on caffeine and energy drinks!   Annie was at it again, coordinating an evening/night of entertaining Corey Feldman who was signing autographs at the convention.  Not to mention we still had to run over to Birdy’s that evening to tape a segment for an episode and then rush back to the convention to pick up Corey and his people to continue the night’s activities.  Annie had been able to again, at last minute while juggling the photography and other jobs, reserve a place for dinner at Iaria’s Italian Restaurant for our party of 13 and she also reserved a VIP section at Hyde at Blu.

Dinner at Iaria’s was for the second night in a row, nothing short of perfection and they graciously stayed opened after hours for our party.  I had some interesting conversation with Corey as he talked about his struggle in eventually accepting his celebrity status.  Corey was thrown into acting at a very young age and explained how he felt he never really had a choice.  He told me how he’s wondered what it would be like or wished he could’ve had a “normal” job.  I was perplexed at this notion and offered up the cliché, “well I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side”…because it seems a lot of people dream of becoming celebrities.  I was surprised when he said, “that’s because they don’t know what it’s really like… you spend a lot of time hiding in dark corners”.

Iaria's Italian Restaurant with Corey Feldman

After dinner, photos, and everyone trying to figure out who the mini celebrity sculptures displayed on the shelves at Iaria’s were, it was off to Hyde at Blu in downtown Indy!  We rolled up in the hummer limo from A Class Act Limousine Service stocked with Indiana Vodka.  My good friend Erica came along that night and we were the first ones of our group to enter the club.  We turned around and none of our party seemed to be behind us!  As we stood there waiting, I became amused at the sudden wave of energy as I heard some girls pass by whispering “Corey Feldman”.  Still no sign of our party.  Erica, being the smart person she is, figured out that they probably went around back for a more discrete entrance.  So we pushed our way through the crowd at Blu where we were met by one of the club managers who took us to the rest of our party over at Hyde.  Dinner at Iaria’s latest longer than expected because we were all engaged in conversation, so we didn’t get to Hyde at the original planned time.  We called to let our contact at Hyde know we were running behind but still planning on coming and on our way with Corey.  The call went to voicemail.  By the time we reached Hyde, they apologized and explained they had to release our booth to a military party.  Understandable.  Corey liked the vibe over at Blu much better anyway and after about 15-20 minutes they were able to accommodate our party with a different VIP section upstairs at Blu.  It was a little hectic at first, but things have a way of working themselves out.  I asked Corey if he was having a good time and he seemed to be.  He said in L.A. it’s never a party until someone dances on a table! Haha … Because I enjoy entertaining people, I promised him after I had a couple more drinks that I’d do it…but then the lights came on and it was too late!  We closed the place down and continued the party elsewhere.

It was interesting to see Corey’s guard come down as the night progressed.  Not because of drinking… (he actually doesn’t drink)…but because I think we established a level of trust with our group.  And likewise it was interesting to see his guard go back up when he was approached by new people.  My first impression of Corey when we all first got into the limo was, this guy seems stone cold and it’s going to be a long night.  Au contraire!  Corey was one of the nicest, most respectful and non-judgmental human beings I’ve met!  By the end of the night, he was motioning for me to come over and sit by him.  He’s a cool guy.  Even gave me his number and invited me to his big 40th, 7-day long, birthday party at the Palms in Vegas!

I will never forget this night.  It is still unreal to me.  I’ve worked so hard for over three years doing Nightlights.  It’s been a difficult and challenging road.  There has been many times where I’ve almost walked away from the show, wondering if it was even worth it.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy what I do, but it’s not always as glamorous as some may think.  My dedication drives from the conviction that someday it will pay off.

It’s starting to pay off.

There was a moment, sitting across from Corey in the limo, where I smiled to myself thinking about the beginnings of Nightlights; where it was, where it is and where I am now, and where it’s heading.  Never in my dreams when we first started Nightlights, had I imagined I’d be sitting across from a major celebrity in a spectacular hummer limo that through part of my and Jason’s (the producer’s) hard work and dedication had obtained.  Nightlights is about local nightlife in Indianapolis; what to do, where to go.  Corey Feldman was in our limo (special thanks to A Class Act Limousine Service) and we were entertaining a celebrity for the night.  It was surreal.  It may not seem like a ‘big deal’ to some, but to a girl from a small town who was once too shy to talk to just about everyone, it was a rewarding experience.

*Special thanks again to A Class Act Limousine Service, Indiana Vodka, Iaria’s, Hyde at Blu, and of course Scott and Annie Romer of Scott Romer Photography for taking all the photos and especially “Wonder Woman” Annie for coordinating and making the nights come together!   Thank you to Jason Jolliff who literally never takes a break to make Nightlights happen.  Thanks to MTv Productions and Jeremy for making our own exhibit booth possible in the first place!  Also thank you to photographers, Jay Auskalnis and Peter Matthes for the photos for the autographs!

I Got the Lead in a Feature Length Comedy!

I’m so excited!  …I was just offered one of the lead roles in a local independent feature length comedy to be shot right here in Indianapolis!  The movie is called Re-intervention: The 13th Step by Jon Stites and Kate Queen.  I’ll be playing the character of “Dixie”!

A little about Dixie:
Dixie is in her early 20s. Dixie is the kind of girl everyone envied in high school, before they realized that was her peak. She started dating a charming senior, Dave, who started on the basketball team at her exclusive private school when she was just a freshman. She continued her reign as the homecoming sweetheart, prom queen, and head cheerleader while Dave was away at college. Then it happened – high school ended. Dave got a real job that didn’t pay much and she had no plans for her future, and no one seemed to look up to her anymore. So, lacking talent and ambition, she decided that she wanted to be a famous singer and despite her east coast upbringing, she knew country-western music was the way to go. Her guitar skills and vocal talents are equally awful. She has severe only child syndrome, and is a judgmental, newly religious, racist, homophobic, hypochondriac who is also an insecure, unaffectionate, detached, selfish airhead, but is so very pretty. She dresses very provocatively and exudes a trashy, too-much-make-up, stripper type of sexuality. Her physical assets are always prominently displayed.

I wasn’t able to make the actual audition but lucky for me, they let me submit a video audition.  The audition script they sent me involved me having to cry hysterically and then I also had to sing really bad! I was so nervous!  I’ve only done a little acting and the other time I had a lead role was for a short film – this was for a feature length!  I wasn’t sure if I could pull off what was required of me for the audition without over-acting.  In the days leading up to submitting for this role, I had knots in my stomach and at several times thought “well maybe I won’t try out …then I can stop feeling so dang nervous!”  But…being the driven girl that I am…I knew I’d be sick with myself if I didn’t at least try.  Plus no one gets to the Oscars with that kind of attitude!

So I made myself audition and received a call-back.  They wanted to meet me and read through some more lines.  Great!  I was close…but didn’t have the role quite yet!  They seemed to like me at the call-back and said they’d be in touch with me.  So I still wasn’t sure if I got the part!  AHHH!! I couldn’t stand it! I wanted it so bad and hated not knowing whether I’d get it or not!  They said it was between me and some other girl.

The next step of determination was a screen test where they had me do a couple scenes for the camera with the main guy (the character of Dave – Dixie’s boyfriend).  I walked out of there still not knowing if I got the part.  I love acting so much – I had a blast just even doing the screen test! …and I was really hoping they’d give me the part.

A week later, I finally received the email:

“Congratulations…..We would like to offer you the part of DIXIE in the film Re-Intervention!  I have attached the script to this email.  …  Also, please reply to this email to let me know if you accept or decline the role.

Thank you and congratulations!”

Ummm….ACCEPT!
