Adventures with Beers: Corey Feldman and the Boondock Saints

Life is an adventure and always full of surprises!  I’m so thankful to have amazing friends (and fans) to share it with!  I write this blog to you.  To you who’ve been supportive and happy to share in my exciting career opportunities.

Thank you for your love, support and encouragement!

Ok.  So a lot of you have been asking how my past weekend was…so here it is…

AMAZING!

I should start from the beginning.

I received an email from the talent relations person at MTv Productions explaining how they came across my profile on Model Mayhem (an online community of models, photographers etc.).   They invited me to pair up with Mike Holman from Jackass at his booth during the Horror Hound Convention and sign autographs if I wanted.  At first I declined because I didn’t think a horror convention reached my fan base.  After her explaining that it was also more of a “pop culture” convention, I agreed thinking it could be a great opportunity for face time with the public to help promote Nightlights.  Once I explained to her about the show I host and that we were thinking about turning the opportunity into a LIVE webcast, she suggested that we have our own exhibit booth.  Pretty cool.  So thus began the scrambling around in last minute preparation for exhibition.  I won’t bore you with the details.

Scott and Andrea (Annie) Romer, who we met during Nightlights’ LIVE webcast of Midwest Fashion Week’s “Food Meets Fashion” the previous week, agreed to come out for the weekend and take fan photos.   Turned out to be a great hit!  I’m glad they came, they do a fantastic job!  (Check them out!  Photos from “Food Meets Fashion” and other Midwest Fashion events are up!)

On Friday, Annie, who sort of became Nightlights co-producer at the convention, was able to…last minute and on the fly…set up an evening of entertaining Sean Patrick Flattery and Norman Reedus (who were also at the convention) from the movie Boondock Saints.  You should’ve seen her.  She was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, frantically but still maintaining a level of sternness and professionalism, making calls and connections to pull this last-minute invite together.  Shout out to Annie!  I was impressed…you are amazing, I don’t know how you did it!  *Kudos

Donny , from A Class Act Limousine Service, provided the transportation to Iaria’s Italian Restaurant (serving Italian Food since 1933).  And of course, we stocked the limo with Indiana Vodka’s new infused flavors.  At dinner, I sat in-between Sean and Norman, had some great conversation and received some valuable career advice!  Then of course before we left, everyone wanted pictures.   The two did the infamous double shot pose with one of the restaurant guys!

Saturday was nuts!  Running on 4 hours of sleep in stilettos all day is not easy!  I was definitely feeling over-whelmed, over-stimulated, and way too hopped up on caffeine and energy drinks!   Annie was at it again, coordinating an evening/night of entertaining Corey Feldman who was signing autographs at the convention.  Not to mention we still had to run over to Birdy’s that evening to tape a segment for an episode and then rush back to the convention to pick up Corey and his people to continue the night’s activities.  Annie had been able to again, at last minute while juggling the photography and other jobs, reserve a place for dinner at Iaria’s Italian Restaurant for our party of 13 and she also reserved a VIP section at Hyde at Blu.

Dinner at Iaria’s was for the second night in a row, nothing short of perfection and they graciously stayed opened after hours for our party.  I had some interesting conversation with Corey as he talked about his struggle in eventually accepting his celebrity status.  Corey was thrown into acting at a very young age and explained how he felt he never really had a choice.  He told me how he’s wondered what it would be like or wished he could’ve had a “normal” job.  I was perplexed at this notion and offered up the cliché, “well I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side”…because it seems a lot of people dream of becoming celebrities.  I was surprised when he said, “that’s because they don’t know what it’s really like… you spend a lot of time hiding in dark corners”.

Iaria's Italian Restaurant with Corey Feldman

After dinner, photos, and everyone trying to figure out who the mini celebrity sculptures displayed on the shelves at Iaria’s were, it was off to Hyde at Blu in downtown Indy!  We rolled up in the hummer limo from A Class Act Limousine Service stocked with Indiana Vodka.  My good friend Erica came along that night and we were the first ones of our group to enter the club.  We turned around and none of our party seemed to be behind us!  As we stood there waiting, I became amused at the sudden wave of energy as I heard some girls pass by whispering “Corey Feldman”.  Still no sign of our party.  Erica, being the smart person she is, figured out that they probably went around back for a more discrete entrance.  So we pushed our way through the crowd at Blu where we were met by one of the club managers who took us to the rest of our party over at Hyde.  Dinner at Iaria’s latest longer than expected because we were all engaged in conversation, so we didn’t get to Hyde at the original planned time.  We called to let our contact at Hyde know we were running behind but still planning on coming and on our way with Corey.  The call went to voicemail.  By the time we reached Hyde, they apologized and explained they had to release our booth to a military party.  Understandable.  Corey liked the vibe over at Blu much better anyway and after about 15-20 minutes they were able to accommodate our party with a different VIP section upstairs at Blu.  It was a little hectic at first, but things have a way of working themselves out.  I asked Corey if he was having a good time and he seemed to be.  He said in L.A. it’s never a party until someone dances on a table! Haha … Because I enjoy entertaining people, I promised him after I had a couple more drinks that I’d do it…but then the lights came on and it was too late!  We closed the place down and continued the party elsewhere.

It was interesting to see Corey’s guard come down as the night progressed.  Not because of drinking… (he actually doesn’t drink)…but because I think we established a level of trust with our group.  And likewise it was interesting to see his guard go back up when he was approached by new people.  My first impression of Corey when we all first got into the limo was, this guy seems stone cold and it’s going to be a long night.  Au contraire!  Corey was one of the nicest, most respectful and non-judgmental human beings I’ve met!  By the end of the night, he was motioning for me to come over and sit by him.  He’s a cool guy.  Even gave me his number and invited me to his big 40th, 7-day long, birthday party at the Palms in Vegas!

I will never forget this night.  It is still unreal to me.  I’ve worked so hard for over three years doing Nightlights.  It’s been a difficult and challenging road.  There has been many times where I’ve almost walked away from the show, wondering if it was even worth it.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy what I do, but it’s not always as glamorous as some may think.  My dedication drives from the conviction that someday it will pay off.

It’s starting to pay off.

There was a moment, sitting across from Corey in the limo, where I smiled to myself thinking about the beginnings of Nightlights; where it was, where it is and where I am now, and where it’s heading.  Never in my dreams when we first started Nightlights, had I imagined I’d be sitting across from a major celebrity in a spectacular hummer limo that through part of my and Jason’s (the producer’s) hard work and dedication had obtained.  Nightlights is about local nightlife in Indianapolis; what to do, where to go.  Corey Feldman was in our limo (special thanks to A Class Act Limousine Service) and we were entertaining a celebrity for the night.  It was surreal.  It may not seem like a ‘big deal’ to some, but to a girl from a small town who was once too shy to talk to just about everyone, it was a rewarding experience.

*Special thanks again to A Class Act Limousine Service, Indiana Vodka, Iaria’s, Hyde at Blu, and of course Scott and Annie Romer of Scott Romer Photography for taking all the photos and especially “Wonder Woman” Annie for coordinating and making the nights come together!   Thank you to Jason Jolliff who literally never takes a break to make Nightlights happen.  Thanks to MTv Productions and Jeremy for making our own exhibit booth possible in the first place!  Also thank you to photographers, Jay Auskalnis and Peter Matthes for the photos for the autographs!

A Year of Beers: A Look Back at 2010

Wow! 2010 has been an amazing year for me!  I’d like to say my year started in March when I took a job and sort of moved to Indianapolis on a whim.  I lived in Elkhart, Indiana pretty much my entire life and like most people my age…I was ready to move on!  As a recent graduate of Indiana University, I wasn’t really looking for a full-time steady job.  At the time I was working part-time and also juggling modeling and hosting Nightlights in Michiana.  I have to admit that at the time, my work situation just wasn’t cutting it.

One evening I randomly came across a job posting on …get this…Facebook! (I know.)  The description fit my qualifications almost perfectly!  Well long story short … I got the job.  Then it was time for a serious decision.

Looking back, moving to Indy seems like the obvious choice but at the time it was somewhat a scary idea.  There were so many “uncertainties”.  My main concern was, “what will happen to Nightlights?”  I had invested so much time and energy into helping get Nightlights off the ground – and it was finally starting to be recognized as we experienced a lot of positive feedback.  The last thing I wanted was for Nightlights to end.

We had a serious discussion as my stomach twisted and turned in knots!  After a taking a deep breath and exhaling we decided to brave it and move the show to Indy.  In reality, Indy is a much bigger market with more opportunities…and if Nightlights could work in Michiana, then it could certainly have a high chance of success in Indy.  Plus I figured, if I don’t make this move now, then I never will.  It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone but sometimes in life you have to push yourself.  Here goes nothing…

My 2010 highlights:

Midwest Fashion Week

1)  I ushered in the new move to Indy with modeling in Midwest Fashion Week.  My favorite time of year in the fashion industry!  It’s my favorite show to walk in because it’s such a big deal and the runway is sooo long!  There are usually two shows a year (Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter).  It’s the biggest production in the area as far as runway and fashion are concerned.  Plus I got to walk for three different designers, the most I’ve ever modeled for in one show: Sachika, Gaby Couture and Catou.  And the most outfits too!  The adrenaline rush from having to frantically change looks …running around half-naked backstage and then entering the runway calm, cool and collected like all that didn’t just happen is such a thrill!

2)  I met the fabulous people of Fashion Wrap Up and modeled in my first national campaign for Tavik Swimwear.  Since then, I’ve modeled several other times for their online magazine.  Plus I was named one of the “Midwest’s Most Beautiful” in their December issue.

custom T.Party t-shirt: "I like to T.Party with Beers"

3)  I scored a jewelry sponsorship with Cheeky Couture.  Get Your Cheeky On!  I also landed my first clothing sponsorship with T.Party T-shirts and received the very first custom-made shirt that read “I like to T.Party with Beers” .

4)  We launched Nightlights in Indy after filming the first couple segments in Broad Ripple at Midtown Grill and the Alley Cat Lounge.  We also implemented the LIVE webcast, something we’d never done before.

5)  Continued juggling Nightlights in Michiana.  Ran our first full-page ad in the Michiana Entertainer magazine …which apparently caused some commotion.  The next time we traveled up to film some more segments in Michiana, people lined up to get my autograph.

signing autographs

6) On that same note, 2010 was the first year I experienced a fan literally running up to me in the street to tell me how much he enjoys watching the show.  I was flattered that he felt so honored to meet me …it was actually kind of weird in a way!  It’s surreal when someone who’s introducing them self is familiar with who I am and I have no clue who they are!

The same kind of thing happened when we did a LIVE feed at Gen Con.  We just moved the show to Indy and someone from Michiana was there, ran up to me …”Are you Amy Beers?” and wanted to get a picture.

Another time I was eating dinner at Sangrias in South Bend.  I thought maybe I was going crazy because I thought I over heard some people sort of whispering at the table next to us and I thought I heard them say “Nightlights”.  They were kind of looking over my way too.  Finally someone spoke up and said, “Hey, are you the Nightlights girl?”  I was glad to know I wasn’t paranoid OR going crazy!

It’s really an odd thing to experience but at the same time I’m happy to know people watch and enjoy the show!  It’s very encouraging!

Catou at Bella Vita

7) I had my first Rehab experience at Bella Vita in Geist when I modeled Catou’s swimwear line.  That was a fun show!  The runway was right over the pool of water.  Fun party afterwards…can’t wait for summer 2011!

Also that summer was my first Moto GP party held at the Kessler Mansion, which I also modeled in.  I felt like I was at one of those high-end parties you see in the movies.  I had just never been to a party like that before.  It had everything:  fire-dancers, an aerialist performing over the pool, go-go dancers, a fashion show, shot girls walking around in body paint, a live drummer drumming along with the DJ, models hanging out in jacuzzis, several bars, not to mention the mansion was so neat to walk through!  Everyone was there!

"My Casino Heart"

8.) I got the lead female role in my first music video! I played the part of the temptress in the video My Casino Heart with the band Reaul. (yet to be released)

9) I modeled in a hair show for renowned celebrity hairstylist Nicholas French.  As he was cutting my hair he talked with the audience about how he’s done the hair of royalty.  I think I may have gotten a little emotional over hearing that and I loved the end result!  He kept talking about how he was giving me a sexy cut! I wish I had video of him cutting my hair and talking in his European accent!

10)  I was named the official spokesmodel for T.Party t-shirts at the runway show debut!  Since, I modeled in the first photo spread T.Party launch for Fashion Wrap Up and also did some product shots for the website.  It’s been a lot of fun working with T.Party.

11)  I GOT A LIMO FOR MY BIRTHDAY!

My boyfriend Jason threw me an awesome surprise birthday party!  I was surprised at some of the people who came considering they were coming from Michiana area.  Some of my new friends that I’ve made since moving to Indy were there as well as an old college friend I recently re-connected with.  My sister made it out and my Mom and Aunt of all people even came!  Oh and one of my besties from high school!

I was completely surprised!  We rode to Bartini’s (Indy newest dance club/martini bar) in two limos where we partied all night long VIP style!  There was never a dry moment – we were well taken  care of.  It was nice having the body-guard keeping watch over our area to make sure no one crashed our party.  I felt like a rock star!

What was even more exciting was, I found out that Nightlights will be working with the limo service in the future… which means that I will get to be chauffeured around to some of the Nightlights shoots!   Look for Indy Class Act Limousine service in some of the upcoming episodes!

So that’s been my year, 2010!  I’m glad I made the move to Indy, big things are happening!  I can’t wait to announce the really big news next year! Sorry, I can’t even give you a hint yet but make sure you subscribe to my blog to stay updated!  I’m looking forward to even greater things in the year to come!

Happy New Year! May it be the best year ever!

Now I’m off to go party and try out my new Ninja Blender I got for Christmas! :D

*Cheers!

Nightlights Behind-the-Scenes

Gatsby's Pub and Grill during the first Colts home game

Well we’re nearly booked up for the rest of the year with shoots for the Nightlights TV show …which I host here in Indianapolis. Things are going really well and it looks like even bigger things are about to happen! I’ve been having good feelings lately.

Oh Mark ...so silly!

I always love meeting new people.  Mark Mcavoy you crack me up!  When the camera guy was getting b-roll video footage, I had to hold the mic way up high to the speaker so the camera could record sound when the raffle prize announcer gave away the prizes.  My arm was getting so tired and every time I looked over, Mark was mimicking me!  I’d switch hands…he’d switch hands.  He’s such a goof-ball!  lol

We had a great time hanging out at Gatsby’s during the first Colts home game.  I think my favorite part about that night was the blue Jello shots Tim threw out at everyone every time the Colts scored a touch down (which is a tradition there).  38 – 14 against the New York Giants…Manning vs. Manning.  It was a good game and if I remember correctly, I think Tim ran out of shots!    They also give away two trips to Vegas every home game.  And guess what…you’ll have to watch the episode when it comes out to see if I won!  Oooo…maybe I did…maybe I didn’t.  If I did …who should I take???  I seriously can’t wait for this episode…I think the video montage of the tossing of the shots after the Colts scored  will be funny and entertaining.  haha

Margherita pizza and their famous Hermanaki chicken wings

Paired with this episode is the Ale Emporium…voted best bar food on the north side of Indy.  OMG … I had the Margherita pizza and their famous Hermanaki chicken wings …and I plan on coming back for more!  It was very very good!  Apparently they make their pizza with a secret ingredient…and we determined we should call it crack pizza!

I also learned that night that Ale is just another name for beer.  Scott the bartender brought me a couple of their Ales to try.  I had the … brace yourself… Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale by Flying Dog Brewery.  Ok this is what you need to do.  Next time you’re there, order it and tell me what you see on the front of the bottle.

What is on that bottle??? :/ lol

Interview with Leonard from Living Proof

The band Living Proof was performing that night.  Wow they are all very talented!  I especially loved their Michael Jackson tribute.  We had to leave right in the middle of it…but I at least got to see their performance of “Thriller”.  This band carries such a great vibe.  You’ll want to be at the Ale next time they perform.

Summertime = Swimsuit Modeling!!!

As promised, here are some of the photos from the Tavik swimwear shoot this summer for the August issue of Fashion Wrap Up.

Photography by Michael Trace
Hair styled by Allure Salon.
Makeup by Leslie Bardonner.
Jewelry by Madrin Designs.

I have been so fortunate to work with some amazing people!  I am so happy to have met Christy from Fashion Wrap Up, Indianapolis’ newest monthly online magazine with a focus on fashionable trends, celebrity style and fabulous accessories with the inclusion of a featured local, Midwest, or limited production designer or label.  Check it out!

Ever since I moved to Indianapolis, especially lately, I feel my modeling, acting and TV hosting career is really starting to take off.  I’ve been so so busy!  …which is the reason why it’s been so long since my last blog!  Lets see…I’ve been in a music video…scored a jewelry sponsor…modeled a couple swimwear lines…started a LIVE webcast with Nightlights…meeting next week with a possible clothing sponsor…networking events…runway shows…plus more coming up…on top of trying to maintain some kind of social life!

This past weekend I modeled for Catou at the Bella Vita for the launch of his new swimwear line.  The show was seriously my most favorite show I’ve modeled in.  The runway stretched out along over the pool and I got to shoot some (pretend) guns.  Of course Rehab at the Bella Vita, especially with it being my first Rehab experience and first time at the Bella Vita, was a blast! My boyfriend and the good people of Fashion Wrap Up came out to support!  Cheeky Couture (my new jewelry sponsor) was there to bedazzle us models in fine jewelry!  We definitely got our Cheeky on!

Oh and the Bella Vita has the best coconut shrimp…yeah…I stuffed my face after the show :/ haha….HEY…..I needed my nourishment…modeling isn’t as easy as one might think!  I mean running in 4 inch heels in HOT muggy weather up and down flights of stairs multiple times continuously while ripping off clothes and jumping into the next outfit plus making sure you have on the right earings etc and nothing is falling off of you and making sure you get to the runway in time, intact, before the last model leaves so there’s no dead time on the runway…WHEW! And it all happens in a snap!

Good show Berny!
